After almost a year in the care of Perley Veteran’s Health, Leon passed peacefully at the age of 93. In 1948, Leon joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served his country with devotion until his honourable release in 1974. He then joined the federal government and continued to serve others until his retirement as the Director of Personnel at Energy, Mines and Resources in 1989.
During his time in the federal government, many a lunch was spent jogging along the Rideau Canal. Sundays were for worship, and Saturdays were for his religious following of PBS’s - This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop. His love of woodworking equaled his love of golf. Tracadie Beach, PEI, was his summer destination for decades which always included a family clam dig and lobster supper. These were enjoyed as much as family winter vacations in Florida.
Born in Odessa Saskatchewan to John & Johanna, Leon is survived by: his younger siblings Joey, Leona, Terry and John, his loving wife of 69 years Leah, daughters Maureen and Anne, grandchildren Leeanne and Matthew and great grandson Benjamin.
The service will be held at Beechwood Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Monday, November 15th at 1pm. Internment and reception will follow. Masks and proof of vaccination are required.
