Margaret Addie Bennett

We are very saddened to announce Margaret's passing on May 28, 2021 at her home in Oakpark Retirement Community. Margaret was born February 4, 1928 in Walkerville, now Windsor, Ontario. Percy and Florence Bennett were her parents. She had two brothers Robert of Ottawa, and Donald (deceased). She enjoyed her sisters-in-law, Marion and Evabelle respectively, nieces, Eleanor and Joan and her nephews Gregory (deceased), Douglas, Cameron and James, Samuel and David. She was always there for her extended family when help was needed.

Margaret attended Walkerville Collegiate and Western University. Upon graduation with a degree in business administration Margaret came to a position at the National Research Council, Communications Branch, now the Canadian Security Establishment, in Ottawa. She rose to be a manager there and was always intensely committed to the secrecy aspects of her role. An accomplished pianist, she donated her piano to the recreation centre at the Establishment after giving up apartment dwelling for retirement residency.

With a good voice, Margaret sang for many years in the Centennial Choir and the choir of St. Paul's-Eastern United church. She was an active member and an Elder in that congregation. Two very close friends from her church, Bernice Aye and Martha Milne were her COVID-19 caregivers. They were with Margaret during her final months and hours. Family is very grateful to them for their devoted attention.

Marg was blessed with a keen mind, an independent spirit and a generous heart. She was an avid traveler while working and in her retirement years. She enjoyed spending time with a wide circle of friends. Marg was a very organized person, a good archivist who had a deep respect for history.

Recognizing Margaret's fondness for cats, donations to The Humane Society of Ottawa would be appropriate; or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, or a charity of your choice.
