Nancy Gail Francis passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 89.
Born in Montreal on November 24, 1936, Nancy lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Paul Francis, and her brothers Hugh Roddick (Diane) and Andrew Roddick.
Nancy is lovingly remembered by her children: Laura Fowler Massie (Sheldon), Wayne Fowler, John Fowler, and Poylyn Francis. She was a cherished grandmother to Alicia (Jordan), Nikolas, Shayla (Matt), Shad, and Sasha, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, step-children, former colleagues, and lifelong friends.
Nancy built a meaningful career in healthcare, serving as an Occupational Therapist Technician and later as a Medical Resource Officer at the Royal Ottawa Rehabilitation Centre. Her work reflected her natural compassion and her desire to help others live fuller, more comfortable lives.
Creativity was central to Nancy’s identity. A master quilter, accomplished knitter, and talented baker, she poured love into everything she made. She was a long-time and proud member of the Ottawa Valley Quilters Guild, where her skill, dedication, and generous spirit were deeply appreciated.
The family extends their sincere gratitude for the excellent care Nancy received from the second-floor staff at Medex Extendicare Long-Term Care Home on Baseline Road in Ottawa. Their warmest thanks and appreciation go to the doctors, nurses, personal support workers, administrators, support staff, and volunteers whose compassion and dedication made a meaningful difference in Nancy’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

My sympathies to Nancy's family and friends on her passing. I first met Nancy in the 1970s when she and my Mum became close friends. Over time, I considered her a friend, as well. When I moved from Ottawa to Saskatoon, it was Nancy and John who invited me over for supper on my last night and who drove me to the airport the next morning. In 2002, Nancy and John joined my Mum and me on a tour of Scotland. Nancy was curious about everything and we had so much fun exploring! In later years, I looked forward to visiting with Nancy whenever I came to Ottawa. She always has lots of new quilts and fabric to show off and was always interested in my projects, too. My memories of Nancy will be treasured forever.
