Chun Tong, in his 95th year, will be greatly missed. The day of his passing, it was like routine. He watched TV, had breakfast, lunch and finally dinner in his wheelchair. He then closed his eyes and passed away quietly in Ottawa on October 3rd, 2025.
Chun Tong was born in a village of Guangdong Xinhui in 1930. He was the eldest of five children who moved to Macau and then Hong Kong in his early twenties to start his career as a tailor. Later, he switched his career as a custodian. Chun Tong worked hard from sunrise until sunset. Sometimes he worked even later well into the night to have enough money to feed seven children and pay for all their education. Although he was a very busy man, he spent his single day off a week making school uniforms, and elegant clothing to his daughters and wife. Chun Tong in his spare time also repaired shoes for everyone in the house. In his later years, he retired and moved to Ottawa to enjoy a relaxing remainder of his life.
Chun Tong was a hardworking person, a handyman. He was a happy, and an easy-going person. He enjoyed playing mah-jongg and eating roast pork. He was a genius as he also built stools. He loved traveling and flew by himself until his 90s. Since his wife’s passing, his health deteriorated quickly.
He will be lovingly remembered by all his seven children (Teresa, Tony, Yenson, Raymond, Terry, Kit, and Thyllix), daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brother, sister-in-law Lin Boon Wong (106-year-old), grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A private family funeral will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 12 at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue in Ottawa. The event will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
