It is with great sadness that the family of Wai Leung Chin announces his sudden passing on October 5, 2025, at the age of 70.

Wai will be lovingly remembered by his wife, May Chin, his children, Christopher and Caitlin, and by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He was the second eldest of the late Lung Poy Chin and the late Bik Yee Lee — brother Wei (Madeleine) nieces Tiffany (John), Melanie (Ben), Genevieve (Nathan); brother Bill (Margaret) niece Veronica, nephew William; and brother Wilson (Me-Loi) nieces Rebecca (Davir), Emily (Brandon), Carolyn (Phil) nephew Matthew (Kelsey).

Wai grew up in Montreal surrounded by family and laughter. Later, he started his career in Ottawa, where he would eventually meet the love of his life, and raise two children together.

A Concordia University graduate in Computer Science, Wai built a distinguished career with the Bank of Canada, Canada Post, Andersen Consulting, and Innovapost.

Wai was passionate about his collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia, golf, hockey, mah-jong, and especially enjoyed eating lobster, one of his lifelong favourites. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father — supportive, kind, and deeply loved by those who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. and burial at 2:00 p.m. at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (Beechwood National Memorial Centre), located at 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. A reception will follow after.

For those who wish to do so, please consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Wai will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Dear May, Christopher and Caitlin,
Our deepest sympathies in your time of such sudden grief.
It always saddens us when we lose someone close, but even moreso as we remember "Chinny" as the social, leader, animated, humorous, athletic, successful star in his many endeavors.
We, and all his friends, hold many fond memories and cherish all the unforgettable times we spent with "Chinny".
We hope you find comfort in your many treasured memories.

Peter & Sylvia.

I have been lucky enough over the last 3 years to be grabbing the 630 AM tee time with Wai. He loved his golf and he was joy to play with. I am already missing pulling into parking lot and Wai waiting in cart for me to go play. And this was last Thursday. Thanks Wai for all the good memories at the marshes.

Very sad news to hear that 'Chinny' has passed. As Chinese Georgian Association members, we spent many hours together at SGWU. If you were looking for a defense at the fooseball table, he was the guy as he had a great shot from the back.
'Chinny' was a well-loved friend to everyone.

My deepest condolences to the family.

We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Uncle Wai Leung, and he will be greatly missed by all of us. Uncle Wai had a quiet way about him, yet he was always kind and funny. His subtle humour & wit would crack us up, especially at family gatherings. His sudden passing has left a big hole in our hearts, but the warmth, laughter, and memories he shared with us will always stay close. As we grieve this loss together, we will be there for you, Aunt May, Christopher, and Caitlin, surrounding you with love, comfort, and strength in the days ahead.

With heartfelt sympathy and condolences,
Bonnie, Dy, Alicia and Justin

I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Uncle Wai Leung. He will be truly missed by me and my family. I spent so much of my teenage years in his car, being driven around with Caitlin, usually to the mall on Saturdays and he never hesitated, always happy to take us wherever we wanted to go. That small act showed exactly the kind of person he was: kind, patient, generous, and full of quiet care for everyone around him.
Sending all my love, support, and strength to Aunt May, Chris, and Caitlin during this incredibly difficult time. May you find comfort in the many wonderful memories you shared together.

May his memory bring you peace and comfort,
Fanny Lei & Family
