Gertrude “Terry” Thibert (Glaser) died August 27, 2025 at the age of 86, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was able to complete her life’s journey at home (her ‘happy place’), with her family.

She was born June 19, 1939, to Alfred and Gertrude Glaser in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and was the oldest of nine children. They emigrated to Canada in 1953.

She received her high school diploma and qualified for a university scholarship in Montreal. However, she met a very charming fellow named John Thibert and they married in August 1961. They had 2 children, Jackie and Michael. When John retired from the military, she later concluded her career at the RCMP College Library.

Terry is survived by her loving husband, John and daughter, Jackie. Dear sister to Tom (Sue), Elsie Rest (Art), Paul, and Monica Cleland (Ken), and many other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her precious son, Michael, her parents, sisters Lucy and Marion and brothers Alfred (Gail) and Frank.

Funeral services (live streamed) will be held on Saturday, September 13 at 10:00 AM at the Beechwood Cemetery’s Sacred Space, in Ottawa, with Father Kelly officiating. Interment will follow the service. All are invited to a reception in the Beechwood Visitation Suite from noon until 2:00PM.

Special thanks to Aunt Elsie, Dr. Nicholas at the Queensway Carleton Cancer Center, Nurses: Tamara, Kate and Mathew, the Rideau Palliative Care Group and Beth Donovan Hospice, Kemptville.

In Terry’s memory, a donation to a charity of your choosing, would be appreciated.

Doug and Rochelle (Rae) Cooper, nee ( Rousseau).

On behalf of the entire Rousseau family, we send our deepest sympathy to John and Jackie, her loving husband & daughter. And to the entire Thibert family who were blessed to have had Terry in their lives. We will remember her as a gentle loving woman, who always spoke with pride of her family. We are so grateful for having had the opportunity to grow to know these cousins better in our later years; I loved talking with Terry; her wisdom , always so positive, even in the face of great sorrow and adversity. I will certainly miss her visits, her smile, her hugs. Her stories of how she came to be in Canada, etc. May the Lord, whom she loved, grant her Eternal Salvation.

Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever. Terry was a kind, beautiful lady. Such wonderful memories of the summer afternoons sitting in the shade under the trees, the many walks, the afternoon wine at my house. Terry is gone from my life, but never from my heart.

I was saddened to learn of Aunt Terry's passing but take comfort in the fact that she had a life well lived.

She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Our deep condolences to John and Jackie and other family members. It was always a delight to have conversation with Terry. One felt welcomed, heard, and loved. It's a blessing to have lived for these few years in the same neighbourhood with her and John. She will be sorely missed.
