It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph PETER Martin, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 84 years of age. Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Fidele and Adele [ROBICHAUD] Martin.
He entered the Canadian Air Force at 18 years of age and chased career moves in Chatham, NB; Comox, BC; Bagotville, QC; Halifax, Dartmouth and Greenwood, NS; Burbank, CA (USA), and Borden, ON, to finally retire from the military in 1984 as a Captain and settled in Ottawa, where he started a new career with DND. He finished his working career as a self-employed contractor for the military in respect of certain aviation computer systems. Dad also had a creative side and loved photography, gardening, oil painting, cooking, digging in the dirt, fishing, golfing, acting in local theatre groups and working with electronic gadgets - all sorts of gadgets - creating unique binary clocks that he sold at the local Radio Shack. He knew everything there was to know about computers, software and peripherals. He also had the sole rights to hundreds of original military aircraft photographs, which he sold as screen savers on CDs and even had an app on the iTunes App Store featuring his photos. He liked to keep busy and he kept busy until the end.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Constance [BLAKELY] Martin, as well as son Jeffrey (Elaine Leahy), daughter Cynthia (Guy Bracewell), and three grandchildren, Dexter, Megan and Matthew; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Henrietta, Dorina, Lillian and Elizabeth, and brother Lionel.
His remains will be cremated and a private burial service for family will take place at the Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, or to Perley Health of Ottawa. A special thank you to all who helped care for Peter over the past two and a half years at Perley Health and the kind staff at the Ottawa General Hospital during his last days.
