It is with sadness and regret that we announce the peaceful passing of William Arthur “Bill (Billy)” Halliday at home on April 1, 2026, at the age of 83.
Bill was predeceased by his father, Thomas Halliday; his mother, Doris Halliday (Gullickson); and his brother, Byron “Tommy” Halliday. He and his family shared deep roots in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.
Left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather are the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Linda; his daughter, Tracy Regnier (Charles); his sons, Mark (Tracy) and Steven; and his brother, Howard. Also mourning their beloved “Poppy” are one grandson, seven granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. They were the lights of his life, and he loved them all dearly.
Bill proudly served with the RCMP for 31 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. Early in his career, he survived a life-threatening injury after being stabbed in the neck while on duty in Newfoundland. He continued to serve after he recovered and finished his career in Ottawa, ON.
Never one to be idle, Bill continued to serve others following his retirement. He became a Registered Massage Therapist, worked as an addictions counsellor, and later taught introductory law at the college level for several years. He had a true passion for teaching and mentoring others.
Hockey was another of Bill’s passions. He played with the Rusty Spurs and other local teams well into his retirement. A naturally social person with the gift of the gab, Bill was known for his stories, his humor, and his ability to bring people together. He cherished time spent with his friends, and shared close-knit circle with Linda that meant a great deal to him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his family doctor, Dr. Sumitha Ramachandran and his cardiologist, Dr. Chamoun Chamoun.
Bill will be remembered for his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and his zest for life, which he carried with him right to the end.
All who knew him are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill’s life at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery, and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, Ontario, on May 22nd, 2026 for a funeral service (10am – 11am), and reception (11am – 1pm).
