Susan Margaret Willms passed away on July 23rd, 2026, while under the excellent care of the staff at Petrolia Hospital.

Susan was born in Toronto and was then moved to Ottawa not long after. She excelled in school and attended high school in Coaldale while living with her uncle Jake and aunt Mary and family.

Susan was an excellent writer, and she wrote for the MPs in Question Period and for the minister in charge of the Status of Women. She ended her career writing articles for a respected internet publication.

Susan was a strong advocate for women’s rights, and she always stood up for what she felt was right. Susan was one of the driving forces behind the federal government banning smoking in the workplace.

She had a lifelong interest in politics and enjoyed thoughtful conversations with people who shared her passion and knowledge. She also loved reading and writing, always eager to learn, reflect, and express her ideas.

At Bear Creek Terrace, Susan enjoyed taking pleasure in the simple moments of each day. She had a warm and friendly nature, and you could often find her wheeling through the hallways, greeting people along the way. She loved to talk and was always happy to start a conversation with staff, residents, and family members.

Her welcoming smile made her a familiar and welcome presence to everyone around her.

Her burial service will be at Beechwood cemetery Monday September 28th at 4pm. The reception is at 530 de Mazenod Ave ottawa starting around 5:30 pm.
