It is with sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Richard Verret on June 30, 2026, at the Perley Rideau Veterans Home, where he passed away in his sleep.
Born on August 15, 1945, Richard dedicated 33 years of his life to serving Canada as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Military Police and then served from 1995-2000 with the UN as a security advisor to UNICEF. Throughout his distinguished military and UN career, he was known for his commitment, integrity, and unwavering sense of duty. His service to his country was a source of great pride and reflected the values by which he lived.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved wives, Patricia Verret (née Graham), in 2000, and Cecilia Hurtubise, in 2023. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Jennifer Savard (Jean-François Savard), and his son, Marc Verret (Gemma Verret, née O’Halloran). Richard was a proud grandfather to Ronan, Girvan, and Darragh, who brought him immense joy and whose lives will continue to reflect his love and guidance.
Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast devotion to his family, and his lifelong commitment to serving others. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he touched throughout his years of military service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Alta Vista Manor for the past three years and then Perley Rideau Veterans Home for the care, kindness, and dignity they provided Richard in his final days.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
