It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul (Jean-Paul) Bruyère on August 21, one day following his 78th birthday, after a lengthy and courageous battle with multiple medical issues throughout his life.
Born in Ottawa, Paul was the beloved brother of Michel (Donna), Lorraine (David), Marie-Claire (Eugene) and Bernadette (John).
He was predeceased by his parents, Hazel Lambert and Joseph Bruyère, his brother Peter, as well as his sisters Catherine Brockington and Marguerite Roy.
He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 52 years, Diane, as well as their daughters Anik (Danny) and Chantal (Dan), his four cherished grandchildren: Lianne, Jérémie, Isabelle and Tatiana, as well as his large extended family and numerous friends.
We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and pain free. He will be sorely missed.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Chapel Hill Retirement Residence who took very good care of him since his arrival last March, and to the hundreds of dedicated hospital staff and doctors who got him through numerous serious health challenges over the years.
Family and friends may visit at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre at Beechwood Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. A funeral service will follow in the Sacred Space at 10 a.m. Interment will take place after the service. A gathering will then follow in the Reception Suite at Beechwood.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to support the University of Ottawa Ottawa Heart Institute, Diabetes Canada, the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County, or another medical association of your choice, in Paul’s memory.
