Peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones, Dr. Maurice Beaulieu, recently of Hawkesbury and originally from Montréal, passed away on April 15, 2026, on the eve of his 97th birthday.
Beloved husband of Laure Beaulieu (born Hétu) for more than 70 years, he is survived by his sons Marc-André (Suzanne Séguin) and Jean-François, his grandchildren Michèle-Laure (Matthew Gobey) and François (Brianna Fraser), as well as his great-grandson William, of whom he was very proud. He was the brother of the late Jean-Marie. He is also survived by several relatives and friends.
A graduate of the Université de Montréal and McGill University in bacteriology and immunology, Dr. Beaulieu devoted his life to medicine, teaching, and research. He notably worked at the University of Ottawa as a professor, researcher, vice-dean, and acting dean, and played an important role in the development of French-language medical education in Ontario, particularly by the university affiliation of Hôpital Montfort.
Recognized for his dedication to students and the medical community, he received numerous distinctions throughout his career. A kind, generous, and deeply humane man, Maurice was also passionate about gardening, music, wine, tennis, and golf. A caring father and grandfather, his family remained his greatest pride.
The family sincerely thanks the supportive and caring staff who accompanied him with kindness over the past few months.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of a donation to the Montfort Hospital Foundation in his memory.
