It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Matthew on June 26, 2026, at the age of 43. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Jennifer. He was a proud, devoted, and loving father to Kyle and Cohen, who loved him dearly and will carry his memory with them always. Beloved son of John (predeceased) and Marilyn. Cherished son-in-law of Jim (predeceased) and Ann Marie. Much-loved brother of Stephen (Victoria) and Adam. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, Skye, Emma, Grace, Ethan, and Colton, as well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues and the Castors hockey community.

Family and friends are invited to Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), for a Visitation on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 10 a.m. in Beechwood’s Sacred Space followed by a Reception and a private Interment. For those who wish to make a donation in Matthew’s memory, please consider a charity of your choice.

  1. We are so deeply sorry for your loss. There are no words to ease the heartbreak of losing someone so loved, so far too soon. Jenn, please know that you and the boys are in our thoughts, and we’re sending you all our love and strength during this incredibly difficult time.
Matt will always be remembered for his boisterous laugh and his patient attempts to teach me how to drive a stick shift. Those memories will stay with me forever. Rest in peace, Cousin.
Julie, George, Amber & Abby XO

  2. Matthew you will forever have a big place in our hearts. Say hi to your Dad and your Nanny & Grandpa for us. Love you.
    Aunt Sue & Uncle André.

  3. Deepest Condolances to the entire Weirsema family at this time. May he rest in peace and each of you be able to find solace during your time of grief.
Rest easy good sir….. you certainly left a lasting impression on so many.

  4. Matt was one of the first people to introduce himself when we moved in and was always up for a quick chat. The year I got my bucket truck we hung Christmas lights on the tree in the front yard. You’ll be missed Matt. Our condolences to Jenn and the kids

  5. Truly heart broken to hear of your passing brother, you were one of the best guys to deal with when it came to fixing our buses !!

Will miss you giving me a hard time (playfully) about calling in with my bus problems !!

  6. I am so saddened by your loss Marilyn. My heart goes out you and your family. God bless.

  7. Dear Marilyn and family, so sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to you all.
