It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Master Corporal Kyle Weiss, who passed away on October 19, 2026, in Deep River, Ontario, at the age of 30.

Kyle was born on May 15, 1996, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Darin and Myrna. He grew up with a strong sense of purpose and graduated from Morinville Community High School in 2014. From an early age, Kyle set his sights on joining the Canadian Armed Forces, a goal he pursued with determination, discipline, and an unwavering sense of duty.

Kyle enrolled in June 2018 and was posted to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (1 RCR), in Petawawa, Ontario, in January 2019. Over eight years of service, he distinguished himself through his exceptional work ethic, technical skills, professionalism, and dedication to those who served alongside him. He completed three deployments to Ādaži, Latvia, in support of NATO operations. During his third deployment on Operation REASSURANCE, Kyle served as a crew commander.

In April 2025, Kyle completed his Primary Leadership Qualification and was promoted to Master Corporal. He served as the Unit Ammunition Non-Commissioned Officer, a position that demanded considerable technical knowledge, organization, and sound judgment. Kyle excelled in this role and earned the respect and confidence of his leadership and fellow soldiers. His service was recognized through the awarding of the Special Service Medal with NATO Bar and the NATO Vigilance Medal, as well as Letters of Appreciation for his contributions to allied unit training exercises.

One recognition that held particular meaning came after Kyle took quick action to assist someone experiencing a medical emergency. For his actions, he was awarded a Commanding Officer’s Coin, reflecting the compassion, initiative, and willingness to help others that defined him.

Kyle’s character extended far beyond the uniform. He was a kind, empathetic, and generous soul who was always thinking of others and looking out for his family, friends, and fellow soldiers. He was deeply respected by those who served with him, not only for his abilities as a soldier but also for his humility, reliability, and positive spirit.

Kyle had a dry sense of humour and an endless collection of dad jokes. His perfectly timed sarcastic remarks would bring a smile to those around him, and his humour became a cherished part of the friendships he built throughout his life.

Outside of his military career, Kyle was a talented musician who loved playing guitar. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, archery, fishing, boating, and travelling to explore different countries. Kyle made precious memories that will always be treasured.

Kyle will be lovingly remembered by his proud parents, Darin and Myrna; his sister, Shayne; his extended family, friends; and the many fellow soldiers whose lives he touched.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026, in the Our Lady of Loretto Chapel, Mons Avenue, Lancaster Park, Alberta.
