It is with broken hearts, and much too soon, we say goodbye to Kathleen Joyce Keefe (née MacKenzie). Kathy passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 14th, with her family by her side, after complications from a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
A kind hearted soul, and family caregiver, Kathy who would always drop everything to be at the side of whomever needed her, or wherever she was needed. Since childhood, Kathy never complained, would go with the flow, and grateful for everything that came her way. We always had the best times reminiscing at Mom and Dad’s of our childhood, our military posting ‘roadtrips’. How fortunate we were as kids to not have much, but we had everything we could ever want…most importantly, each other.
Kathy’s happy place was family time. Whether to visit her family in Comox, getting out in Papa’s boat to go fishing, all the while enjoying the water, sharing stories, laughs and unforgettable memories.
She was gifted with having a ‘kitchen magic’. She cooked with love and baked with all her heart. She and Paddy would head to the cottage for the weekends, fully prepared meals, to enjoy family time with the kids and grandkids. Everyone loved being in Kathy’s presence, she made everyone feel special, she just let you…be you.
Kathy was predeceased by the love of her life, Patrick David Keefe (Paddy), her parents Leigh and Violet MacKenzie, brother Al, sister Dawn, and brother Wayne.
Kathy is survived by her sister Peggy (Tom), brother Ken (Juanita), her loving sons Scott (Shelley), and Bobby (Dee), her grandchildren, Cameron, Blake, and Charley and Cooper, who were her everything. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She loved them all dearly.
A devoted wife, loving mother, a doting grandmother, Kathy leaves us with much love and a treasure of heartwarming memories. She is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Beechwood Funeral Home and Cemetery (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) to honour Kathy on Thursday, October 8th, from 1-3 pm.
