It is with profound sadness that the Meunier family announces the passing of Jean, son of the late Edgar Meunier and the late Janette Meunier (née Lacourse), who passed away at the Gatineau Hospital on August 6, 2026, at the age of 80, following a long battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mireille, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, as well as his two sons, Serge (Isabelle) and Yves (Diane).
He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Jérémy, Sandrine (Josh), and Félix; his step-grandchildren, Émilie (Maxime), Julien, Jocelyn, and Bryanna; his great-grandson, Cloud; and his two step-great-grandsons, Calel and Zaïc.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Claudette, Madeleine (Robert), Cléo (the late Juddy), and Charlène (Alain); his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Lafontaine family: the late Angéline (Albert), the late Raymond (Christine), the late Estelle (Jean-Luc), Michel (Chantal), Marie-Marthe (Kurt), Paul (Danielle), and Céline (Paul); as well as his many nieces and nephews, his godson Marc (Lise), and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the oncology staff, particularly Dr. Daniel Plouffe and pivot nurse Lizanne Leblanc-Brisson, as well as the staff of the 6th floor North at Gatineau Hospital, for the care provided and their professionalism. A very special thank you goes to Dr. André Gauthier and his wife, Lorraine, for their ongoing care, support, and dedication.
Jean will forever remain in our hearts as a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family, loved ones, and friends will forever cherish the memory of his presence, his love, and all the beautiful moments shared with him.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 27, 2026 in the Sacred Space of the the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue in Ottawa, after 12 noon. Memorial Service will begin at 2:00pm followed by a reception in honour of Jean.
In his memory, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made through a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
