Isabelle Marie Comrie-Mercier passed away on September 7, 2026, at the age of 98. She was a deeply loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Isabelle was overwhelmingly proud of her family, and she loved us all unconditionally. Family was at the heart of her life, and the love she gave so freely will continue through the many generations that were so fortunate to have her.
Isabelle was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Francis Comrie and, later, the late Joseph “Bud” Mercier.
She is survived by her six children: Philip Comrie (Linda), Lonnie Comrie (Kim), Adele Crich (Doug), Ralph Comrie (Linda), Chantelle Comrie (Gary), and Frances Stewart (Keith).
She was a proud grandmother to Christina and Vanessa (Paul); Carley and Cristy (Daniel); Jason, Joseph, Jarrett (Rebecca), and Jordan; Ryan, Jamie-Lynn, and Adam; Josh (Nina) and Russell; and Baden (Andrea) and Isabelle (Ian).
Her family continued to grow through her great-grandchildren: Amanda, Christopher, Larissa, Michaela, Kohl, Nickolas, Riely, Madeline, Isabelle, Wade, Hugo, and Archie.
She was also blessed with great-great-grandchildren: Peyton, Ireland, JJ, Scarlett, Payton, Willow, Waylen, and Winnie.
Isabelle is survived by her sisters June (Jack) and Connie (Pat). She was predeceased by her brother Robert (Denise).
Isabelle had a wonderful appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. She loved riding her bicycle with family members and loved both playing and watching tennis, which she described as an “elegant and refined” sport.
As a young woman, she took dance lessons, with a particular focus on tap dancing, and her love of dance stayed with her throughout her life. She also cherished her French heritage and enjoyed speaking and singing in French.
She loved entertaining and especially enjoyed serving hors d’oeuvres with tea, affectionately referring to them as “poo poos.”
Later in life, Isabelle became an accomplished artist. She generously shared her creativity with others through watercolor painting, beautiful beadwork, knitting, and many other artistic projects.
She had a special connection with children and animals. A true “child whisperer” and “pet whisperer,” they seemed naturally drawn to her, and she watched over them as lovingly as they watched over her.
For many years, Isabelle traveled to Florida, where she loved the sand, sunshine, and beaches. She also had a deep love of classic black-and-white movies and could happily watch her favorites over and over again, admiring the elegance of the eras—the fashions, music, and dancing.
Isabelle was an authentically genuine, patient, and kind soul. She had a wonderfully fun sense of humor and an extraordinary ability to roll with the punches and take life in stride. Most memorable was her infectious laugh—a laugh that retained a beautiful purity and innocence and one that will be dearly missed.
Isabelle leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, laughter, and creativity. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her love and spirit will live on in every generation that follows.
A Celebration of Life and interment at Notre-Dame Cemetery, Ottawa will be announced at a later date.
