Betty peacefully slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God at Perley Health in Ottawa on April 2, 2026.
Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, raised in Brooklyn & Port Medway, Queens County, she was a proud Maritimer. She was predeceased by her husband Harold “Danny” Danielson, her parents Clifford & Kathleen (Morine) Armstrong of Brooklyn, Nova Scotia and sister & brother-in-law Patricia & Sgt. Earl Mosher of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. She was the loved mother to her family, her son Gordon Danielson of Halifax (Sandra), her daughter Patricia Paquette of Ottawa (Russ), and granddaughter Jessica Paquette of Lanark County.
She and Danny met at a dance at Summerville Beach while he was stationed at CFB Greenwood and she was a student nurse at the Liverpool Hospital. She trained as a nurse at the Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax, and continued her nursing career at Ottawa’s Grace Hospital when the family moved from Halifax to Ottawa. After a long career of caring for newborns and their mothers Betty retired when she was 65. She was a skilled and caring nurse to thousands of families.
Betty lived a full and long life, with a keen and sharp mind and memory to the end. She excelled at and loved to knit, gifting her beautiful socks, sweaters and other garments to her family and friends. In the kitchen Betty was an amazing cook who loved to create traditional east coast fare and share it with family and friends. She had a lifelong interest in history, politics and current affairs and could debate with the best of them. She was always faithful to stay in touch by phone or letter with her friends and family near and far, some of whom she had known since childhood.
Thank you to the wonderful caring team at Perley Health who cared for our mom during her final years. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Betty, please consider Perley Health or the Salvation Army.
A family graveside service will be held on October 6, 2026, at 2 p.m. where she will join Danny in her final resting place with him in the Veterans Field of Honour of the National Military Cemetery within Beechwood Cemetery.
