Sharon Spencer, after a long battle with cancer, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on October 2, 1949, she is survived by her loving partner of twenty-three years, Brigido Galvan (Pancho); her siblings, Tom Spencer, Ruthie Olley, and Laurie Spencer. She was also a loving aunt to her nieces Charlotte, Rachel, Pamela, Sally, and Amy and her nephew Kris.

Sharon’s journey included a forty-year career as an elementary school teacher. Her love of life was one of enthusiasm, generosity, and sense of humour, not only for her students and colleagues but for family and friends too.

Her love of travelling took her to Europe, North Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. She loved salsa dancing and was very good at it.

We will all miss Sharon deeply.

A Celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at Beechwood Funeral Home, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa on Tuesday June 2, 2026 1:00pm – 4:00pm, with memorial tributes to begin at 1:15pm.

  1. My big sister, Sharon. Honestly, the kindest person I have ever known 🙂 Rest well sweetie pie, a piece of my will always be with you 🩷 xoxo

  2. She was the best friend of my late sister Sandra. Because I was so close to my dear sister, it allowed me to become a good friend with Sharon. She was such a kind compassionate and loving person. I had the privilege of travelling twice to Italy with her with the Umbria club. A true gem to travel with.
“What once was is no more”. You will be sadly missed dear friend. Rest in peace Sharon and Give Sandra a big hug for me

  5. Time has passed, and through it we came to discover Sharon with whom I shared not only the joy of my grandchildren, but also the warmth of good conversations and family dinners and lots of laughter. May you rest in peace, and may your presence continue to touch our lives from time to time in the flutter of a butterfly or the gentle whoosh of a remembered smile.

  6. I am so saddened by the passing of my friend, Sharon. We shared great moments of teaching, travelling to Italy, music, Italian cooking classes and a billion laughs. She was a beautiful soul and a well loved teacher. I will think of you every time I see your favourite flower, a glorious purple iris.

  7. I will always remember you with warmth and gratitude. Thank you for your friendship, your kindness, and the beautiful memories we shared.

You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
