Passed away peacefully in Ottawa, Ontario, on June 21, 2026. Wendy was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred Danard McArthur and Gladys McArthur, her eldest sister Blanche (Farr) and her older brother John. She is survived by her sister Anne (Morgan), nieces and nephews, cousins and many lifetime friends and former colleagues. She was also predeceased by a number of much-loved pets: Tommy, Rubin, Oliver and Rosie and by Charlie (the cat) who was adopted.

Wendy received an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree from Queen’s University in Political Science and Economics and a Master’s Degree in Planning Studies from the London School of Economics, London, England. She worked at the House of Commons, the Canadian Wheat Board Secretariat and at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Grains and Oilseeds and Market and Industry Services Branches and retired in 2006.

Wendy loved music and was actively involved all of her life in things Celtic, playing in various pipe bands for 60 years, most recently in Ottawa, with the Ogilvy Pipe Band, Air Command Pipes and Drums (for 22 years) and, in her retirement, with the RCMP Pipes, Drums & Dancers. She also loved the classical harp and spent many happy hours in that music.

Wendy especially loved gardening and enjoyed the beautiful colours of the flowers and plants that filled her garden to over-flowing. She considered it all God’s works of art.

A Remembrance Service will take place at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, gathering from 12 noon until the time of the Inurnment at 1:00 p.m. in the Hosta Gardens at Beechwood Cemetery, a Reception to follow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre.

Wendy wished to thank her medical team at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, General Hospital: Dr. Song, Dr. Lupe, Dr. Robillard, Dr. Chang, and Dr. Caudrelier. Wendy wanted a special thanks to go to her brilliant and wonderful Dr. Anusha Jahagirdar (Dr. J), to all who work so devotedly in TOH Oncology and to her many dear and caring friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Cancer Centre, General Campus, for important Cancer Research and Priorities to benefit the community or to Hospice Care Ottawa for the Hospice at May Court. For messages of condolence please visit www.beechwoodottawa.ca

  1. My best friend from the time we were 11. Wendy dragged me up to the top floor of the Police Court in Fort William because she didn’t want to take the bus alone to attend bagpipe lessons. Thus began our love of piping which continued to this day.
RIP our dear friend. I hope you are still piping in heaven and driving Mr. Smith crazy!

  2. With a heavy heart we in the RCMP Pipes, Drums & Dancers, receive this news. She was a wonderful member of our band family, and while she’d been retired from our band for some time, she always remained our sibling in our hearts. She’ll be so fondly remembered and we offer our deepest condolences to all her family and loved ones.

  3. A beautiful photo of a beautiful person. We piped together many years in ACPD. For the past four years we met every second week on FaceTime where I played a mini piping concert for her and we chatted. Often my wife, Freda joined our conversations. We were both amazed at her extensive knowledge of Celtic culture. We will miss you, Wendy.
