Portrait de MWO (Retired) Robert Clair Everitt, , CD

It  is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Clair Everitt, affectionately known to family and friends as Clair, on October 18, 2026, in his 90th year.

Clair will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Muriel, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. He leaves behind his daughter, Brenda; her husband, Paul; his adored grandchildren, Abbey, Molly and Ryan; his daughter-in-law, Karen; his cherished granddaughter, Felicia; her partner, Todd; and his precious great-granddaughter, Myla, all of whom will forever carry his memory in their hearts.  Clair was predeceased by his much-loved son, Brian, whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Clair dedicated much of his life to the service of Canada. His military career began at just 16 (not 17) years of age when he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces as a young recruit, often referred to as a « boy soldier. » Over the course of his distinguished 30-year military career, he experienced remarkable adventures and opportunities, including travelling to the Suez Canal as a teenager, spending six months at Alert, the northernmost permanently inhabited place in Canada, and later serving in Germany with his young family. He was immensely proud of his military service and the experiences it afforded him.

Following his retirement from the Armed Forces, Clair continued his commitment to supporting Canada’s military community by working for 15 years with the Department of National Defence as a federal public servant. His dedication to service extended well beyond his time in uniform, reflecting a lifelong devotion to supporting those who serve our country.

Beyond his career, Clair embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a wonderful sense of humour. He loved boating, square dancing, and playing cards, but perhaps what he enjoyed most was making people laugh. His quick wit, playful spirit, and infectious laughter could brighten any room. Whether gathering with family, spending time with friends, or sharing stories from his many adventures, Clair had a gift for bringing people together and making them smile. Muriel was always by his side, and together they built a life rich with love, friendship, travel, adventure, fun, and unwavering devotion to family. Their enduring partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them and a testament to a lifetime of love and commitment.

Clair’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, strength, wisdom, and humour left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Vincent and his exceptional palliative care team for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Clair and his family during his final days. Their professionalism, dedication, and genuine concern brought comfort during a difficult time and will always be remembered with deep appreciation.

Clair leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion, laughter, and love. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.

A private family interment will be held at National MIlitary Cemetery of the Canadian Forces. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clair’s memory can be made to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County or the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

We love you, Clair, Dad, Grampa, Poppa. We miss you already. You will forever remain in our hearts.

« Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and forever dear. »
