It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Lorraine Charles at the age of 79. Our mom and beloved wife of Ray Charles left this world peacefully on July 5, 2026.
Born to Robert and Gertrude Goyette of Eastview (Vanier), Lorraine brought light and laughter to everyone she met.
Lorraine was known for her love of flowers, her vibrant spirit, her infectious smile, and her unwavering devotion to her family. She spent years building a beautiful home and a successful career at the Children’s Aid Society. Along the way, she built a community of friends who adored her. In her earlier years, she enjoyed camping at Cedar Cove Park Resort.
Mom had a love of gardening, travelling, colouring, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved to dance. She always made sure everyone around her felt loved and cared for.
Her pride and joy was being a grandmother to Kylie and Bronson. Though her final years were challenged by Alzheimer’s disease, we choose to remember her as the bright, compassionate, and brilliant woman she always was at heart.
Mom, you are finally at peace and free from the fog of this disease.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Ray Charles; her children, Shawn Charles (Ivonne Loya) and Tracy Charles (Gino Paolino); her grandchildren, Kylie Charles-Azeke and Bronson Charles; and her step-grandchild, Giacomo Paolino.
She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne Delaney (predeceased by Allan Delaney); her brother, Richard Goyette (deceased); and her nephews, Greg Delaney (Alice Snippe-Delaney) and Danny Delaney (Nathalie Marshall), as well as her godson, Dylan Delaney.
Lorraine will be deeply missed by her husband of 60 years, Raymond Charles, and by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held on July 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, followed by the burial and reception.
The family requests that donations be made to the Children’s Aid Society. Lorraine made a difference in the lives of so many children through her care and compassion. Donations may also be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada to help fund research toward a cure.
