Hsiang Hua Chu (nee Wong), age 77, of Ottawa, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 3, 2026 at Ruddy Shenkman Hospice in Kanata.

Hsiang Hua was born on September 26th, 1948 in Taishan, Guangdong, China. She and her husband and their 3 children immigrated to Canada in 1982. They settled in Ottawa and shortly after she began working in a Chinese restaurant. Though it was strenuous and hard work, she was not deterred by it and applied herself to the task.

Hsiang Hua was a loving and devoted mother and sacrificially put her family’s needs above her own. Family came first and was above all else to her, a value she exhibited to those around her. She worked tirelessly outside and in the home. Hsiang Hua always showed hospitality to those who came to her home. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals and gardening; when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her garden taking care of her vegetables.

Hsiang Hua was predeceased by her father and mother, Yet Kwai and Wai Kim Wong. She is survived by her husband Wei Hsien, her three children Judy, Connie, and Yao, her older brother and two younger sisters who are in China.

Hsiang Hua’s memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Her legacy as a loving, kind, supportive, thoughtful and generous mother and person will continue to inspire us all. In our hearts, she lives on, and we will forever honour her as a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on each of our lives. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill. We will miss her dearly.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa, ON) on Thursday, September 10th, 2026 at 1pm. The Funeral service will begin at 2pm, followed by the burial in Beechwood Cemetery.

  1. Dearest Connie, Alan, and and family,

My condolences for the loss of your mother, whose lovely smile I recognize in your own expression, Connie. May she be honoured and God be glorified as you continue to reflect her grace. Shalom that passes all understanding.

  2. To the Chu Family,
Our deepest condolences to the family for the loss of your much loved and respected Mrs. Hsiang Hua Chu. We’ve only known Mrs. Chu for over a year, but she had touched our hearts of her genuine expressions of kindness, warmth, grace, gentleness, generosity and helpfulness. We praise God that she had accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour and received the most precious gift in life. May the Lord’s peace fill your hearts and comfort you with strength during this difficult time.
