Doreen Frances Downes

Peacefully at home with her daughters by her side on August 20, 2026 at the age of 94. Loving wife of the late Tom Downes. Beloved daughter of the late Cecil and Marie Hunwicks. Predeceased by her sister Barbara (late John Anderson). Loving mom to Donna (late James Altimas), Karen (Steve Simpson) and Sharon (Rick Simpson). The very best Grandma to Meagan (James), Emma (Gerry), Rachel (Jonny), Trevor (Alex) and Ashley and Great-Grandma to Jude. Fondly remembered by her nephews Mike, Steve and Doug Anderson and their families.

Mom would be the first to say she had a very good life. She was extremely devoted and involved in the lives of her daughters and grandchildren. She loved them dearly. Mom was never too busy to cheer them on at a figure skating event, soccer or hockey game. All the grandchildren agree Grandma was the best babysitter ever!

A world traveller of Europe, China and Australia, but her most cherished spot was at her beloved cottage on Pigeon Lake. Mom loved cutting the grass and puttering around. Being at the lake was her happy place. The annual family Thanksgiving weekends were so memorable.

A very special thanks to her exceptional caregivers for their compassionate care.

Mom will be forever loved and remembered by her family and friends.

A funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, August 26^th, 2026 at 1:30pm at The Beechwood National Memorial Centre in Ottawa followed by a reception.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be most appreciated.
