It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dimitrios Liagridonis, at the age of 85, on September 18, 2026, with his beloved wife Stamatina by his side.
Surrounded and loved by his family every day, he was a true testament of strength, humility, compassion and a life filled and guided by faith. Despite all the hardships he endured, he never allowed his suffering to define him. Instead, through his unwavering faith in God and Jesus Christ, he demonstrated that love is the most powerful force of all, carrying it in his heart and sharing it unconditionally each and every day.
Through his wild spirit and big heart, Dimitrios touched every person he encountered. He was deeply loved and cared for by his devoted wife Stamatina, and together they dedicated their lives to providing for their two children, Athanasios and Triantafylli, and all of their grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Dimitrios held many cherished roles as a son, brother, husband and father, but it goes without saying that being a grandfather held a particularly special place in his heart. As the Papou of Emmanuella, Sophia, Dimitri and Angelina, he shared the purest form of unconditional love and support. His grandchildren were among his greatest joys, filling his life with the same eternal love they received from him. His love will continue to live on through each one of them as a lasting reminder of the incredible man they had the greatest blessing of calling their Papou.
Above all, to know Dimitrios was to love him.
Dimitrios was born on May 15, 1941 to Athanasios and Triantafylli (nee Drima) in the village of Skafidaki, Greece. He came to Canada in 1966 and married his beautiful wife Stamatina on March 24, 1968. They settled in Regina, Saskatchewan where they were surrounded by many siblings. Their two children, son Athanasios and daughter Triantafylli, were born and raised there. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, sportsman, man of faith but most importantly, a loving and caring son, husband, father and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his father Athanasios and mother Triantafylli, sister Anna, brother Panagiotis (Konstadina) and sister Ourania (Konstadinos). He is survived by his wife Stamatina, son Athanasios and his wife Lucyna, their children Emmanuella, Sophia and Dimitri, daughter Triantafylli (Nat) and granddaughter Angelina, brother Anastasios (Katerina), Anna (Adonis), Yiannis (Bonnie) and Konstadina (Yiannis) and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Dr, Ottawa, ON K2C 1N2). Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. followed by internment at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, ON K1L 8A6).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church. In the Donation Note, please indicate “Dimitrios Liagridonis.”
