Dave was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The first born child of the late David Frederick Smith and Mary Catherine Smith (Nee) Evans. He is survived by his only child Rebecca Eryn, his sister Deborah and his brother-in-law Pierre. He will be mourned by his ex-partner, Sheila, his nephew Philippe and his niece/Goddaughter Taylor. As well as his many cousins and friends. Dave was an amazing athlete, excelling particularly in hockey and lacrosse. He loved shooting pool and playing cards, particularly, Poker.
The Leafs lack of ability to take the cup is directly responsible for hastening his demise.
Everyone has regrets. A few of Dave’s were eating that hot dog from the street vendor in 97′. Not training his faithful cat, Badger, to help with his football picks and having no video evidence of his prowess on the hockey rink (or in the bedroom for that matter)
Dave respectfully is requesting six Maple Leaf players as pall bearers, so the Leafs can let him down one last time.
Dave broke all the molds and skipped sugarcoating anything but…. He’s God’s problem now.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday November 5th, 2026 at 1:PM at Beechwood Cemetary. Burial directly afterwards. All friends and family are welcome. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the MS society. MS robbed Smitty of so much but not his sense of humour.
