It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Brenda Mary Klassen, of Ottawa, Ontario, on October 2, 2026, at the Montfort Hospital, at the age of 93.
Brenda was born in London, England, on April 4, 1933. She met her husband, Norman Klassen, while he was pursuing a doctoral degree in England. Their relationship brought her to Canada, where they married in 1961 and built their life together in Ottawa. Norman predeceased her. Brenda will be lovingly remembered by her three children, James Klassen (Nancy), John Klassen (Sylvia), and Sarah Klassen, and her grandchildren, Victoria, Willow, Sarah, Emily, Gillian, and Lily. She was predeceased by six of her siblings and is survived by her sister Valerie, who lives in the United Kingdom.
Above all, Brenda was a devoted mother who always made time to listen. Whatever difficulties she was facing herself, she always wanted to know how her children were doing and hear about their worries and concerns. Her care for them never wavered, and knowing they could always turn to her was one of the greatest gifts she gave them. Brenda had a natural eye for beauty and an intuitive sense of how to bring it to life. She loved gardening, and her beautiful garden reflected her creativity and the care she devoted to it. She also had a gift for creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere and making every occasion feel special. A wonderful cook, she made family Sunday dinners a cherished tradition, bringing everyone together around her table. Her family will miss her deeply and treasure the happy times they shared.
A church service will be held on October 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation of the Lord Parish, followed by a reception at the church.
