We mourn the loss of Alicja Fedorowicz (predeceased by her husband Zygmunt Fedorowicz in 2024), our dear Mama to Barbara (Janusz), Janina (David), Babcia (Piotr, Jolanta, Christine, Alicia) and Pra-Babcia (Maksimilian, Mateo), who succumbed to severe illness Friday morning June 5, 2026.

As a child, Alicja was a WWII victim of wartime mass deportations of Poles to Siberia, surviving disease and starvation, followed by a harrowing journey by train from Uzbekistan through central Asia, by boat from Krasnovodsk to Iran and eventually to Palestine.  In Palestine, camps and boarding schools were established for Polish refugee children and Alicja found herself at the Ain Karem Boarding School for Polish girls.

Alicja’s family joined several thousand Poles who boarded ships and settled in England as part of the post-war migration and in 1947 were admitted to Canada as displaced persons.

In 1950 Alicja married Zygmunt Fedorowicz and they went on to live 74 years in peace, hard work and family life in the community of Kemptville near Ottawa.  In retirement they settled in Barry’s Bay and enjoyed summer visits with Fedorowicz family members in Kaszuby Ontario and winters in Florida where they were actively engaged in fund-raising for students in Poland and theatre events for the community with the Polish American Society in Venice and Sarasota.

Alicja was out-going and enjoyed many interests and hobbies and many friends and family to share them with. Being with family and friends was the happiness in her life.  She was adventurous and fearless and throughout her life continued to find interesting courses in college and art school, was employed in banking and ran businesses in the food industry.  In retirement she learned to do stained glass, how to play a guitar and crochet bedspreads. There was always a new adventure to experience.

She had a rich and rewarding life.  She will be missed.
