Alvaro Reis Machado, aged 86, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, at Saint-Vincent Hospital, with his wife and son by his side. Born in Porto Judeu, Terceira, Acores on June 12, 1940.
He was a loving husband of Durvalina Sousa Dinis Machado, with whom they shared 53 years of marriage. Together, they raised their family, including their son Jamie. Alvaro was a loving grandfather of 2 grandsons (Benjamin, Nicholas) and one granddaughter (Lily). He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his siblings Maria (late Eduardo), Jose (Alice), Francisco (Fatima) and Alicia (Darryl). Alvaro is predeceased by his parents Joao and Maria Lourenco and his brothers Joao, who is survived by his wife Maria and his brother Alcides, who is survived by his wife Rosa.
Alvaro came to Canada in 1970, where he built the foundation of the life that his wife and son are so grateful for. He worked many jobs after arriving in Canada but worked a large portion of his life with Bellai Construction. After retiring, he took pride in raising his 3 grandchildren. Alvaro was avid fisherman and loved taking the family to Upper Canada Village every Sunday to spent time with family and fish. He also loved tending to his garden, bringing the traditions he had learned from his parents.
Alvaro was a devote Christian and spent countless hours at his parish (Sehnor Santo Cristo), volunteering his time. He was very proud and passionate about his parish and helped with the construction of the church that stands today.
Alvaro Reis Machado’s legacy is one of enduring love, unselfishness and a family well-loved. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and the memories he created will to bring comfort and smiles to those he left behind.
