Third Annual Under the Maple Leaf – Respecting the Canadian Flag Ceremony

9 June 2027 @ 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Us for the Third Annual Under the Maple Leaf – Respecting the Canadian Flag Ceremony

Wednesday, June 9, 2027 | 7:00 PM
National Military Cemetery of Canada

Beechwood Cemetery, the National Cemetery of Canada, invites Canadians to attend the third annual Under the Maple Leaf – Respecting the Canadian Flag ceremony, a meaningful evening dedicated to honouring Canada’s most recognized national symbol.

This special ceremony provides an opportunity for Canadians to come together in reflection, gratitude, and national pride as we respectfully retire Canadian and provincial flags that have faithfully served their purpose. Whether they flew over homes, schools, businesses, military bases, community organizations, or public institutions, each flag represents a story, a memory, and a connection to our shared identity.

The ceremony will feature reflections on the significance of the Canadian flag, the sharing of stories submitted by Canadians, the ceremonial placement of retired flags, a piper’s lament, remarks from distinguished guests, and a final procession honouring these national symbols with dignity and respect.

As the National Cemetery of Canada, Beechwood is proud to provide a place where Canadians can gather to recognize the service, sacrifice, and values represented by the Maple Leaf. What began in 2025 has grown into an annual national tradition that continues to unite Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

All are welcome to attend. Sign up today.

For those unable to join us in person, unserviceable Canadian and provincial flags may be submitted throughout the year for respectful retirement. Community groups, schools, Legions, embassies, businesses, elected officials, and individual Canadians are invited to send their flags to:

Honour the National Flag of Canada
c/o Beechwood Cemetery
280 Beechwood Avenue
