Portrait of Richard Bruce Douglas

Richard passed away suddenly after one last visit with his two children. Richard’s strong and thoughtful spirit will be remembered by many.

Richard will be dearly missed by his children, Sabrina (Brendan) and Joey, and their mother, Jennifer. Richard was a proud brother to Mark (Carol), John (Sandra), Joan (Paul), Margaret (Dennis), and Judy (Patty), and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents, Austin and Jean Douglas, whom he was very proud of and missed deeply.
Richard was intelligent, creative, sensitive and hard working, always willing to help his family with a project. He was an IT manager at Bell Canada, but his talent shone brightest when figuring out how to build world class bomb disposal safety gear including suits and helmets for MED-ENG where he was the third employee hired by the start-up. Richard was a talented piano player and loved playing cards and games with his family. Using his mother’s favourite recipes, Richard enjoyed baking shortbread cookies, coffee cake, and pineapple delight to share with loved ones. Richard was a proud father and celebrated Sabrina and Joey’s accomplishments, hobbies, and interests endlessly.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Beechwood National Memorial Centre in Ottawa, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 2:30-5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Richard’s memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Richard was a dear friend, He loved his children dearly, always ready to help, we will miss him very much, I’m shocked at his passing, we enjoyed going for breakfast together , having good conversation, since the day I met Richard in around 1985, we became great friends, back in the days were he was healthy and very energetic, I remember he worked in construction building homes, and would bike to work, RIP Richard I will miss you, Love Roch

  4. I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Richard. He was truly one of the friendliest people I have ever known. Whenever we spent time together in the past, he brought so much warmth and joy to the room. Although the busyness of life meant we did not see each other as much in recent years, I always looked back on those early memories with so much fondness and genuinely missed our time together. It was always a true pleasure to share a conversation and a laugh with him. It was beautiful to see how his family remained anchored in love and respect throughout the years. My heart goes out to his family and everyone who loved him. I am holding all of you close in my thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace.
