Western Tour of Beechwood Cemetery

May 31 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Sign up here!

Walking through the western half of Beechwood Cemetery is like walking through the history of early Canada. This tour visits some of the cemetery’s oldest sections, beautiful gardens, and the Mausoleum. Tour attendees will be able to connect familiar Ottawa street names to prominent individuals and families who helped build the city. Participants will also learn how what started as a local community cemetery grew into Canada’s National Cemetery.

The tour of Beechwood Cemetery is led by trained volunteers and focuses on local history and notable features and sections within this National Historic Site.

  • The tour is free of charge, and is family friendly.
  • The route for the Stroll is a gentle 1.5-2 hour walk and is wheelchair accessible.
  • Please wear good walking shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, apply bug spray and bring water if needed.

For the Western tour, your guide will meet you at the Gazebo which is next to the Beechwood National Memorial Center (the closet street entrance is Beechwood Ave).

Please note the Beechwood National Memorial Centre is closed to the public on Sundays, therefore please use the washroom before arrival.

Be sure to come back again for the Eastern Tour of Beechwood Cemetery!
