Tom "Case" Casey passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom is survived by his wife Adele (nee Jolicoeur); his daughters Kristina (Mark Simonson) and Annik; grandchildren Sydney, Thomas, Beatrice, Jacob and Isabelle; his brother Dan (Sandra); a large extended family and many friends and colleagues with whom he shared many stories and laughs. A long-time sportswriter and editor with the Ottawa Citizen and member of CFL and Ottawa Sports Hall of Fames, Tom will be remembered for his integrity, curiosity and ability to remember even the smallest details. His love of family, travel stories and infectious laugh will forever remain ingrained in our memories. The family would like to thank the Orléans palliative care team, specifically Dr. Vincent and the compassionate care Tom received in his final days at the May Court Hospice. Also, a special thank you to his ParaMed PSWs  Abib and Victoria who treated Tom with kindness and dignity with a touch of shared humour. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Tom's memory at the Maycourt hospice or the Ottawa Mission.

Please join the family in a Celebration of Tom's Life, on Monday, June 3 at 10 a.m., at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, followed by a reception starting at 11 a.m.

I had the honour to know Tom over many years and will always fondly remember the many happy memories of family times with Tom and Adèle. Tom was a good man who thoroughly his life .A man of intellect and humility,he enjoyed a good discussion, a hearty laugh, his work and his family. A voracious reader, he gave me many recommendations on good books. Tom loved cycling and continued on with the sport even after his cancer diagnosis . I was lucky to have met him and I will miss his presence on this earth.
