Passed away in Ottawa on April 2, 2020, in her 89th year after a brief illness, Sophia John Stack (nee Mills). Predeceased by her husband, Edward P. Stack, and her precious infant daughter, Julie Ann. Leaving to mourn: her children, Mary (Laurie Bucci), Robert (Margo Connors) and Edward; and her grandchildren: Christopher (Erika) and Corey (Rachel) Bucci; Sean (Ashley), David (Erica), and Conor (Julia) Stack; and Ily and Lucas Roldan-Stack, and their mother Maria Roldan; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Rebecca, Nolan, Ellis, Rory, and Maggie.

Fresh out of high school in Marystown, Newfoundland and Labrador, Sophia received teacher training at St. Bride’s College, Littledale. She then taught on the Port au Port Peninsula and in Petty Harbour, where she met Edward.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre for their excellent care.

Cremation has taken place. Because of the current COVID-19 restrictions, Sophia’s remains will stay at Beechwood Funeral Home until a ceremony marking her life can be held and she can be laid to rest with Edward at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to a charity of choice.

Rob and Margo, Susan and I extend our sincere condolences on the death of Rob's mother. The current restrictions on visitation and the ability to extend our sympathies in person only make the event more tragic than usual. But please be assured our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time.
