Passed away peacefully on November 5th, 2023 at the age of 81. Rollande leaves behind her loving husband of 43 years, Gregg Calkin. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Lorraine Carrier, sister-in-law, Louise Carrier, nephew, Marc-Antoine Carrier, and godson, Alexandre Carrier (Wim Remysen). She was predeceased by her parents Rolland and Gabrielle Carrier (née Fortin) as well as brother Robert. Rollande began her professional career at the Montreal-based legal firm Ogilvy-Renault. She then joined the Department of External Affairs in Ottawa (now Global Affairs Canada) serving Canadians abroad in Canada's foreign service. Her first posting was to the Canadian Embassy in Rabat (Morocco) where she met and subsequently married the love of her life, Gregg.
Her lengthy career led her to postings at the Canadian Embassy in Washington (USA), the Canadian High Commission in London (UK), and the Canadian Mission to the European Union in Brussels (Belgium). After retiring in 2000, she accompanied Gregg as wife of the Deputy Head of Mission at the Canadian Embassy in The Hague (Netherlands).
Rollande loved to travel and did so extensively in the USA and Europe. She particularly loved cruising, taking several trips throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia and the Caribbean. In 2011 she had the fortune to sail on board the maiden voyage of Cunard's Queen Elizabeth liner from New York City, USA to Canberra, Australia.
She was an avid reader, a great fan of British TV mysteries, loved cooking and trying new recipes. Rollande is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Monday, November 20th at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON) from 1-3pm.
