It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rick (Fredrick James) Viau on Monday, March 27th, 2023, at the age of 60. Rick was father of Devon Viau and husband of L.J. (Clogg) Viau. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Viau and Florence (Claydon) Viau. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Bob Viau (Pat), sisters Sandy Primeau (John), Debbie Lackey, and Bev Moreau (Lawrence), nephews and nieces, and closest friends, Jon Doyle, Keith Bulmer, and Peter Kelly.

Rick ran his tree and hedge trimming business in the Ottawa area for over 35 years. He had a passion for creating beauty for his clients and in his own backyard where he enjoyed socializing and playing guitar. The backyard was a gathering spot for Devon and his friends. Many competitive games of croquet and bocce were played there.

Rarely one to sit for long, Rick could often be found building, renovating, fixing, or macgyvering things. He also loved to fish, scuba dive, laugh, cheer for the Sens, spend time with his friends, curse at bad drivers, and have a good time. He lived his life his way.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held in early summer in his beautiful back yard. If you are interested in attending, please reach out to L.J. or Devon.

A special thank you to the health care providers in Emergency and D3 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.

Rick was the funniest person I new. He could talk about anything. He was so interesting when he would tell his stories. I will miss him terribly ?

Here today. And if I said, I really knew you well,. What would your answer be? If you were here today. Well knowing you, you'd probably laugh and say that we were worlds apart. If you were here today. But as for me, I still remember how it was before. And I am holding back the tears no more, I love you. What about the time we meet? Well I suppose that you can say that we were playing hard to get. Never understood a word but you were always there with a smile. . What about the night we cried, because there wasn't any reason left to keep it all inside. And if i said, I really loved you and was glad you came along and you were here today. For you are in my song. Here today. Paul McCartney wrote this song to John Lennon after his death. Two old best friends trying to make amends. Dear Devon, your father was an amazing guy and my best man , he remained that for me till the end. So very sorry for your immense loss as a young man. Dear L.J. ,I've always admired your courage and strength. Stay strong and know that I am here for you today and always. your old friend Robert Cloutier. 613-794-8343.
