Passed away at his home in Ottawa, on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the age of 78. Beloved father of Robert, David, and Amanda. Cherished grandfather of Timothy, Malcolm, and Charlotte. Loving brother of Kathy (Glenn), and Ann (Dave), predeceased by his brother John. Son of the late Johann Schatz and late Annie Schatz (nee Liske). Fred is fondly remembered by Maxine Schatz and his son-in-law Steve.
Family and friends are invited to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), for a visitation on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 12 noon until the time of the Memorial Service in Beechwood’s Sacred Space at 1 p.m. Interment to take place in the National Military Cemetery located at Beechwood Cemetery. For those who wish to donate in Fred’s memory, you may do so towards a charity that is close to your heart.

First met and sailed with Fred in HMCS Onondaga in June 1969. We then sailed for a couple of years together in Okanagan. Our many dealings over the years led us to a common goal to “record and preserve our Submarine history”. Fred shared his knowledge and records with me about 6 years ago and that is the standard I maintain. I am sad that I can no longer pick up the phone and call him to answer a question. RIP Fred. You will not be forgotten.
