Philip Seto passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the age of 86. Born in Hoi Ping, Kwangtung, China, Philip was the youngest son to the late Chong and Loy Fung (Hong) Seto.

He immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his mother to join his father who had already settled in Ottawa. He eventually followed in his father’s footsteps as a restaurateur. Philip spent many years as the manager of New Star Restaurant (Ottawa) and later, Canton Take-out (Rockland) until he retired. Throughout his years as a businessman, he gave many new Chinese immigrants their first job in Canada.

Philip was a very private man with a gentle nature. He enjoyed watching Chinese dramas, hockey, and baseball, playing mahjong, and keeping up with world events. He will be remembered as a friendly and kind man.

He is predeceased by his wife, Catherine Kam Yuk (Wong) Seto; his sisters Pick So (Seto) Tam and Bik Lou (Seto) Lam and his brother Fred Gene Wan Seto. Philip is survived by his children: May (Steve), Susan (Detlef), Roger (Patty), Nancy (Katherine), James (Ai Lien), and Linda (Roy); his grandchildren: Leanna, Colin, Sebastian, Adrianna, Keilana and Hannah; his sister Vivian Bik Yen (Seto) Hum; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Philip’s family thank you for your sympathy and condolences. In keeping with his wishes, a private family service and burial were held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute would be greatly appreciated.
