Dr. Joan Ann Craig (née Glashan) of Ottawa, passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 11, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joan was born on March 5th,1944, in Montreal, to Keith and Mildred Glashan. She lived a joyful childhood alongside her siblings Keith, Grant, Stewart, Richard and Marie. She went on to attend McGill University in the Faculty of Dentistry and graduated in 1966, a time when a female in the profession was noteworthy. Throughout her career as a dentist, she provided caring, compassionate and exceptional quality care to her patients.
Joan was an extraordinary wife and mother. Family was her most important priority, always present to offer guidance, support, and encouragement. She was her family's fierce leader and rock.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed downhill skiing, cycling, walking with her walking group, fitness classes, playing bells for a bell choir, and most of all, spending time with her adored grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David, her children, Sarah (Adam Shapiro) and Jane (Stephane Bujold), and her grandchildren, Sydney, Leah, Samuel, Zachary and Luc.
Joan's family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Beechwood National Memorial Centre (280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa). A funeral mass will be held on August 24th, 2024, at 1:00 pm, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (1758 Alta Vista Dr, Ottawa), followed by interment and reception from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at Beechwood Cemetery.
It was Joan's wish to have as many friends and relatives as possible at the reception to celebrate her life. Please help us make this wish come true.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care Ottawa - May Court Hospice or to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

David, Rick and I were deeply saddened to read about the passing of your beloved wife Joan. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We have many memories of skiing at Camp Fortune - the Valley and Skyline - and spending time with Joan. May your many treasured memories help you through the difficult days, weeks, months and years ahead and may each day bring some lessening of your sorrow. We know your family will bring you great comfort.
