Esther Beatrice Earle, nee Carter, born on August 18, 1944 in Botwood, NL, to George and Elsie [Humby] Carter. She received her Master’s Degree in English from Carleton University and then taught English, History and Geography with the Ottawa Board of Education for over 40 years. She was a member of the Canadian Women’s University Club, several book clubs, and was an avid supporter of live theatre. She had a passion for writing, capturing many events from her life in the form of short stories, and had just completed her first novel. She also enjoyed travel, painting, crafts, pickle-ball, 120s and was the driving force behind family reunions. But above all else, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who adored her children and grandchildren. She loved unconditionally. She passed surrounded by family, aged 78 years, on July 12, 2023. Predeceased by her siblings Albert, Fred (Alma), Babe (Royden) and Sonja (Arthur). Survived by her loving husband Harold, children Craig (Tammy), Heather (Eric), Jennifer (Mike), and Erika, brothers Jim (Evelyn), Jack (Shirley), and Allan (Peg), grandchildren Beau, Sadie, Anika, Bianca, Cressida, Heidi, Story and Novi, and many loving relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Ottawa Civic Hospital Intensive Care Unit or a charity of your choice.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Esther several years back when our departed, mutual friend, Valerie Cousins, invited me to join a writers' group. Esther was a good written storyteller, but an even more enchanting oral storyteller. Our paths crossed again at ASW. I send my condolences to her family, who will undoubtedly miss her dearly. Both Judy and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Esther's passing. I recall all the good socials we had at Don's with all the other 'lappers' and the entertaining and humorous recitations Esther would give now and then. She sure was one of a kind.

My sincere condolences on your loss. Esther was such a vibrant lady. I can still remember the first time I met her, on a Sunday morning, as she carried the twins into church in their car seats with Sadie trailing along. I was so impressed she managed all three! She just adored the girls, all 4 of them! She always seemed so calm and organized. It was a pleasure working with her in the All Saints nursery for several years. I am so sorry that she is gone. A lovely person. I will miss her.
