John was a valuable and memorable colleague and supervisor through out my entire career at CIDA. My sincerest condolences to Blair and Lindsay on the loss of both their mother and father.

I will always remember Elaine for her vivacious personality and devotion to family and friends. I had the privilege of serving as coordinator with Elaine for our Canadian Federation of University Women's hiking, X-country and cycling group for a couple of years. Elaine was one of our fastest skiers and enjoyed our February week-ends when taking part in the Canadian Ski Marathon which also earned us a few medals! I will be watching the service from Waterloo where I now live. My very sincere condolences to Lindsay and Blair on losing such wonderful parents.

I have fond memories of cross-country skiing with Elaine in Gatineau Park and at the Canadian Ski Marathon. Elaine was such a warm and friendly person. I will miss her lovely smile and her sense of humour. My condolences to Lindsay and Blair.

My friendship with Elaine goes back many years to our high school days, Bishop’s University years, and onwards. The summer of 1958, with Sandra Walsh, the three of us explored the wonders of Europe and the UK together. In 1960 Elaine sang at our wedding. Though life took us in different directions we maintained ongoing contact via email and phone. Ten years ago, Elaine and John visited us on Vancouver Island when we were able to reminisce and renew our friendship all over again.
What fun we have had and what marvellous memories. What a loss to all of us, but especially to Blair and Lindsay and their families.

I enjoyed working with John and had the benefit of a few of his astute, unvarnished observations and bits of advice.

I will always remember the kindness & warmth of the summers we spent with Aunt Elaine & Uncle John in Lac Marois or in Kenya. I will be joining on the stream from the U.K.

I wish I could be with you but unfortunately I can’t, so I will be watching digitally. My heart goes out to Lindsay and Blair for their loss - they definitely made their parents very proud. Personally I’m missing both John and Elaine but Elaine in particular was my role model, my tower of strength and a beloved sister to Paul. May they rest in peace. Lots of love, Kiki

As a British bureaucrat at DFID, I sent a note to the then CIDA President. John Copeland replied to invite me to consider joining CIDA. So began my trip to work with John in the new Cida offices in the Jackson building
