Denis Lavoie passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the age of 67 of lung cancer. He was a devoted husband to his late wife (Aline Lavoie), caring father, loving brother and grandfather and an honorable friend. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Melanie Roy (Pierre-Paul Roy) and his grandchildren, Evan Roy and Caleb Roy. He was the son of the late Victor Lavoie and late Aline Whissell and brother of Bob, Paul, Claudette, Diane, Pierre, Jeanne, Huguette, Guy, Lorraine, Lise and Rolland (predeceased by his brothers, Roger and Maurice).

Denis was passionate about his trade (steamfitter), enjoyed his fishing trips and found joy in helping others.

Family and friends are invited to a service in memory of Denis at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Thursday, October 27 at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

It is with a saddened heart that I write in Denis’s Guestbook.
Denis that I knew and loved.
Since his childhood Denis was a big part of my life. I watched him grow up from a shy boy to a fine young man. He became a responsible adult and was successful in achieving whatever he decided to do. He was not a boisterous person, he enjoyed life his way, quiet, reserved and had a sense of humor that was only appreciated once you knew him. He had an infectious laugh that in hearing it you joined in the laughter.
He was an avid fisherman; and he shared his love of fishing with his pride and joy Melanie. In recounting the many fishing trips, he would laugh with a twinkle in his eyes when Melanie caught the bigger fish. He loved to play cards, bowling with his life partner, all in all he enjoyed life. He worked hard and took pride in his achievements whatever they may be.
He was happy and content with the roles he had in life. He married the love of his life, was father to a wonderful daughter, and with open arms welcomed Pierre-Paul into the family. But the role he enjoyed the most was being grandpapa. He loved and cherished his grandsons Evan and Caleb. His face would light up when sharing some of the stories the boys and he did together.
I had the privilege of sharing many happy times and some sad times and as fate would have it, we shared the same birthday date, 15th of February. On occasion we would go out and celebrate our birthday together, more often we would call each other, and wish each other HB, that, I will dearly miss.
Denis was not a perfect human being but the kind of person the world needs more of. Non pretentious, loving, generous, kind, responsible and helpful when needed. Good or bad you knew where you stood with him.
Denis my dear friend with courage, dignity and on your terms, you decided to cross the Golden Bridge. Rest in peace in the loving arms of your beloved and devoted wife Aline. Hopefully one day we’ll meet again.
My Dear Melanie, Pierre-Paul, Evan, and Caleb
Accept my heartfelt sympathy at the loss of a wonderful person
Denis. Know that your love and care for your father was very special.
Love always
Bernadette Whissell
