It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a great man: Mr. Claude Roy.
Claude passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 1, 2023, at the age of 70. He was the loving husband of Suzanne Roy and the wonderful son of Yvette Côté and the late Denis Roy. In addition to his dear Suzanne, he is survived by his two beloved sons: Benoît (Kara Reynolds) and Christian (Nadine Gauthier) and his precious grandchildren whom he loved so much: Tristan, Coralie and Félix. He also leaves his sister Suzanne Roy (William Bushey), his mother-in-law (Carmen Richer), his brother-in-law Denis Richer (Sylvie Laframboise), his sister-in-law Louise Richer (Yves Beauseigle) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Oncology Department of the Ottawa Hospital and to Dr. André and Lorraine Gauthier for their much appreciated care and support.

Claude Roy came up as the oldest in our family in Val d'Or, Quebec, in 1953—and on October 1, seven decades later, he passed from this earth without a sound. That's how he wanted it. He was here, sharing a life with his wife of nearly 50 years, and then he wasn't—dust to dust.
What Claude set out to do was build a quiet life with his family in Ottawa, raise his sons, do the dishes, and fix the broken garage door. He set out to live quietly — and then pass away just the same.
He could go hours without saying a word, but a flash of wit always waited on his tongue. I'll miss the sound of his voice and his dry sense of humor, even though I did not always get the joke. He was my mother's favorite and ours, too—I loved and admired him.
When the time was near, he had been unresponsive for some time, and I was able to speak with him one final time. Through tears, sorrow, and the desire to say only the right things: "I love you, I'll miss you, thank you for everything, thank you for taking care of all of us."
"Love you," he whispered back.
He'd done so much good, even if it couldn't be listed on official records or captured in a stat sheet of an obituary. The good of his life was the ever-rippling water, quiet and steady, and we will long be swept up in it.
