Passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the Ottawa Hospital - Civic Campus; age 54 years. John is the cherished son of John and Lois Lund (Salmon Arm, BC). Dearest (slightly) older brother of David Lund and loving uncle of Jacob and Eli Lund (Kelowna, BC). He will also be sadly missed by his close friend Theresa Sorel (Ottawa, ON) and by his aunts and uncles: Brian (Doris), Marlene, Jim (Cindy) and Chris (Darlene). John moved to Ottawa in 2010, working as an archivist for the City of Ottawa Archives for 12 years.
Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). A private family service will be held. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of John, you may do so to the Kidney Foundation or to a charity of your choice.

John was always very welcoming at the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) conferences, and it was clear that he was passionate about acquiring, preserving, and providing access to the stories of everyone who calls Ottawa and Canada home. I appreciated the spirit he brought to our profession. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues as they carry his memory while he moves on to the great beyond.

John's departure on July 5th, 2023, in Ottawa has shattered my heart. He was a remarkable person who had many gifts and passions, from poetry and photography to history and archives. He enjoyed music and dancing, road trips, camping and conversations. He had a diverse taste in music, from rock and punk to jazz and blues. He loved to dance. He was considerate, always curious, and eager to learn. He was a faithful friend, even if we didn't see each other often. Whenever we met, we had a strong bond, like time stood still. I will miss John terribly; he was a huge part of my life. Our bond was forged in laughter, song, dance, and (unfortunately) many tears; it is a bond that distance, time, and--it appears--death will never break. I am fortunate to have an abundance of wonderful memories of him to fill the void he has left. I hope that each of you can find a similar comfort in your memories of him.
