It is with great sadness that we announce to you that during the early hours on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, William Kin Wei passed away peacefully in the Intensive Care Unit of the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital at the age of 86. He had been in declining health prior to his admittance to the hospital.
After spending the early part of his life in Taishan, China and subsequently Hong Kong, William immigrated to Canada in 1970 to start a new life. William was able to successfully own and operate the Lido Restaurant in Hull and subsequently the Canton Restaurant in Gatineau. He retired from the Chinese restaurant business in the year 2000.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jung Shek Lam (father) and Lee Shui Ho (mother). He leaves behind his dear wife, Barbara, along with brothers, David and Thompson (Margaret), and sisters, Helen and Kitty (Peter). He will be greatly missed by nephews, nieces and cousins living in China, Canada and the USA.
The family wishes to thank the Intensive Care Unit doctors and staff at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital for the care that he received during his stay there.
Friends and family may pay their respects at the Beechwood Cemetery on Saturday, September 19 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. After the visitation, a service will immediately take place to celebrate William’s life with interment at Beechwood Cemetery to follow at 12 p.m. An invitation is extended to all family and friends to join them for an afternoon lunch at the Beijing Legend Restaurant, 1800 Bank St., Ottawa.
