DESCRIPTION:Join Us – National Ceremony at Beechwood Cemetery  On Tuesday\, May 19\, 2026\, we invite you to join us at Beechwood Cemetery for a significant national moment of remembrance and recognition.  In partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces and Indigenous community leaders\, the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation will host the Unveiling of the Inuit Sacred Spiritual Symbol (Qulliq) at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces.  This ceremony marks an important step forward in ensuring that Inuit members of the Canadian Armed Forces are honoured in a way that reflects their cultural identity\, traditions\, and spiritual beliefs. The Qulliq\, a traditional Inuit lamp\, symbolizes light\, warmth\, and continuity\, values deeply connected to service\, resilience\, and community.  Event Details: 📅 Tuesday\, May 19\, 2026 🕙 10:00 a.m. 📍 Sacred Space\, Beechwood National Memorial Centre 280 Beechwood Avenue\, Ottawa  The program will include ceremonial opening by Indigenous Elders\, traditional Inuit cultural elements\, remarks from senior leadership\, and the formal unveiling and blessing of the updated spiritual symbols.  This is more than a ceremony\, it is a meaningful step in strengthening how we honour those who have served\, ensuring that remembrance reflects the full diversity of Canada.  All are welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:War Graves Week 2026 - Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and Beechwood Cemetery  Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and Beechwood Cemetery on May 16th at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM for a free tour in honour of War Graves Week. Come learn about the servicemembers who died in the World Wars commemorated in the National Military Cemetery and throughout Beechwood Cemetery grounds.  War Graves Week invites you to discover the stories behind the world wars across the globe\, wherever Commonwealth war dead are commemorated – including here in Ottawa. The tour will cover CWGC’s history and ongoing work\, the history of military burials at Beechwood Cemetery\, and key landmarks on the cemetery grounds including the Cross of Sacrifice. We will visit memorials and war graves and tell the stories of some of the people commemorated here.  There are 95 First World War\, and 143 Second World War Commonwealth war dead who served in the Canadian\, United Kingdom\, Australian\, and New Zealand armed forces commemorated at Beechwood Cemetery.  The tour lasts approx. 90mins and covers about 2km on pavement and grass with some uneven ground. Please come dressed for the weather and wear suitable footwear.  Meet at the Tank at Section 27.  ———–  Joignez-vous à la Commission des sépultures de guerre du Commonwealth (la Commission) et le cimetière Beechwood ce 19 mai a 14hrs et 16hrs pour une visite guidée gratuite offerte dans le cadre de War Graves Week (soit la Semaine des sépultures de guerre). Venez découvrir à propos des militaires qui sont morts pendant les deux guerres mondiales qui sont commémorés au sein du Cimetière militaire national et partout à travers le cimetière Beechwood.  La Semaine des sépultures de guerre vous invite à découvrir les histoires qui se cachent derrière les guerres mondiales à travers le monde\, partout où les soldats du Commonwealth tombés au combat sont commémorés – y compris ici\, à Ottawa.  La visite abordera l’histoire et le travail actuel de la Commission\, l’histoire des enterrements militaires au cimetière Beechwood\, ainsi que des sites emblématiques du cimetière\, dont la Croix du Sacrifice. Nous visiterons des monuments commémoratifs et des sépultures de guerre\, et raconterons les histoires de certaines des personnes commémorées ici.  95 morts de guerre de la Première Guerre mondiale et 143 morts de guerre de la Seconde Guerre mondiale sont commémorés au cimetière Beechwood. Ceux-ci ont servi dans les forces armées canadiennes\, britanniques\, australiennes et néo-zélandaises.  La visite dure environ 90 minutes et couvre environ 2 km sur des chemins pavés et de l’herbe\, parfois sur un terrain un peu accidenté. Veuillez vous habiller en fonction de la météo et porter des chaussures convenables.
