She leaves behind her husband André, daughter Kathy and son-in-law Luke, son Luka and daughter-in-law Sissi and grandchildren Aria and Caleb, as well as many family members, friends and loved ones. She died of a berry aneurysm at home during the night of Friday, August 2 to Saturday, August 3 after several courageous years of fighting health problems, including polycystic kidneys.

Family, friends and supporters are invited to join the family on Saturday, August 17 at 1 p.m. for a visitation, at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa. The visitation will be followed at 3 p.m. by a ceremony and a reception where we will share our nice memories of our dear Lucie. All are also invited to the burial ceremony of her cremated remains on Monday, August 19th at 3:00 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.

Your sympathy can include donating to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and by completing your organ and tissue donor registration (here for Quebec residents).

My thought and prayer go out to Lucie and her family whom she talked about very fondly during our tour of Afghanistan in 2010.

I had the privilege to work with Lucie when I was posted to Ottawa. She had the most positive outlook, work ethic, and professional demeanor while undergoing very difficult health issues. I remember how happy she was when she received news that she was receiving a kidney transplant after such a long wait. It’s a shame she wasn’t able to enjoy her new lease on life for a longer period of time.
