It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Novak.
Joe passed away at Bruyére Hospital on October 10, 2021, after
suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for five years. Joe has left behind
loving wife Lyn Novak, daughter Kim Novak (Maurice Taillefer), and
grandchildren Kristopher and Krystal Novak-Taillefer, who all acted as
caretakers during his final years. He also left behind daughter Terry
Saadé (George), sons Joey and David Novak (Debra), step-son Jim
Cummings (Tracey), grandchildren Jayhaed, Shanelle, Daniel, Johnathan
and Nicholas, and treasured friend Kaz Samsik.

Born on September 18, 1937, Joe’s early childhood was spent in
Yugoslavia during the Second World War. He escaped the country in
young adulthood, fleeing from forced conscription under the then
communist government. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 21, where
he eventually met the love of his life, Lyn Novak. He spent his days
creating art, playing volleyball, and travelling with Lyn. A natural
storyteller, he documented his life in his 2020 Biography “The Smell
of Apples.” He was a man of incredible wit and intelligence who never
failed to offer his insight, and will be greatly missed by his family
and friends.

The service for Joe will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood
Avenue on Tuesday October 19. The service will begin at 1:00, followed
by the burial at 2:00. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there
will be no reception following the burial. We apologize for this, but
it is out of our control. If you can make time out of your day to
come, we would greatly appreciate it.

I love PapaJoe dearly and he will always be in my heart. He was an amazing loving grandfather and I will cherish every memory. Florida will never be the same without him arguing and refusing to ask for directions, he made the trips laughable and memorable.
I love you PapaJoe and I will forever miss you, you helped make my childhood amazing❤️
