A first class family man and an esteemed member of the Canadian Armed Forces

On April 5, 2020, Marc Rouleau passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 54. Marc was thoughtful in his words and actions, always quick witted and he lived with intention and purpose. Most of all, he took unmeasurable pride in his family's team-like approach to life and unconditional love for one another.

His legacy lives on through his wife and best friend Nathalie, his children Nicolas (Mary Anne), Alexa (Jean-Christian) and Michaël (Marina), his loving mother Diane (and late father Normand), his brother Mike, his mother-in-law Colette (and late father-in-law Roland), his brothers-in-law Guy (Jocelyne) and Denis (Paula), his nephews Kevin (Stéphanie), Jonathan (Sonia) and late Marc-Alexandre, his niece Annabelle (Dante) and his first grandchild. After being diagnosed with cancer, Marc's known resilience was exemplary and his desire to fight never wavered.

A church service will be held at a later date in Orleans, Ontario for family and friends to celebrate Marc's life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Eye Institute or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Marc was one of the most intellectually sound officers I knew. He approached everything he did with professionalism and a great sense of humour. We often traded stories of our back problems and he was able to always look on the bright side, in spite of the great challenges he faced.
Marc was one of the good guys. He was the guy who you could always count on. His efforts during the Ice Storm in Quebec were exceptional and he provided an after action report that transformed how we prepared for future deployments of PAOs during disasters.
On a personal note, Marc was a great friend and colleague. I will miss him.
To his family I offer my deepest condolences.
Jeff

My deepest condolences to the Rouleau family. Colonel Rouleau left an indelible mark on the PA Branch and all those who were fortunate enough to work with him. His wisdom, infectious enthusiasm, quiet strength and leadership will be deeply missed. He lived his life in a way that truly embodies the proverb, 'Live your life in such a way that when you die, you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.' I am among the many who are indeed crying at such an immense loss. He was truly a giant among us, and the world is a sadder place without him.

It is with much sadness that I learned of Marc's passing. I have known Marc and the Rouleau family since I was Colonel Norm's driver in 1971. I saw Marc play hockey as young boy and later I had the honour and previlege to serve with him in 5e RALC and in SQFT HQ. I only have fond momeries of time spent with this outstanding Gunner and officer . He was a great person who always strived for excellence and achieved exceptionnel results in all aspects of his life.
Diane, Mike, Nathalie and family, please accept my deepest condolences, my thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult times, bon courage.
Good Shooting, End of Mission, Rest In Peace Marc.

Learning of the passing of brother-in-arms, a former classmate, football team partner, and public affairs colleague, is already tough. It is made that much more difficult to swallow when it is someone who continued to lead and mentor people in spite of some physical adversity later in his military career. In and out of uniform, Colonel Marc remained true to his North Star and generously guided a number of us along the way.

While the pain that my heart presently feels pales in comparison to Marc’s loved ones, I wish to extend my condolences to a Natalie, their children and Marc’s family.

He was a friend whose passion and vision united many of us.

The best thing we can do to honour his memory is to continue to follow his example
