A first class family man and an esteemed member of the Canadian Armed Forces

On April 5, 2020, Marc Rouleau passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 54. Marc was thoughtful in his words and actions, always quick witted and he lived with intention and purpose. Most of all, he took unmeasurable pride in his family's team-like approach to life and unconditional love for one another.

His legacy lives on through his wife and best friend Nathalie, his children Nicolas (Mary Anne), Alexa (Jean-Christian) and Michaël (Marina), his loving mother Diane (and late father Normand), his brother Mike, his mother-in-law Colette (and late father-in-law Roland), his brothers-in-law Guy (Jocelyne) and Denis (Paula), his nephews Kevin (Stéphanie), Jonathan (Sonia) and late Marc-Alexandre, his niece Annabelle (Dante) and his first grandchild. After being diagnosed with cancer, Marc's known resilience was exemplary and his desire to fight never wavered.

A church service will be held at a later date in Orleans, Ontario for family and friends to celebrate Marc's life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Eye Institute or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Dear Mrs. Rouleau, Mike and family,
I was so sad and numb after hearing this news about Marc. I hope that memories of happy times will help heal your hearts now and in the future. Know that you are in my thoughts.

As one of Marc's oldest friends I was shocked to learn of his passing at such a young age. My talk with Diane brought back so many great memories with the Rouleau daily from earlier days in Valcartier and St Hubert. I am so proud, and not surprised, to read that Marc left such a strong and lasting impression on so many in his personal and professional life. I wish to offer my deepest sympathies to Nathlie, Diane, Mike and the entire extended Rouleau family.

Our condolences go out to Nathalie, Nicolas, Alexa, Michael, Diane and Mike. As extended family continue to share the grief. The tributes are moving and identify an exceptional person who fearlessly placed family first and who won the respect of his colleagues and many friends through his patience, civility, compassion, generosity and hard work. Throughout his life he led by example and provided guidance in his own unique, modest and humble way. His contagious smile and sense of humor are displayed in our family photos including in those taken in his younger years when he and Mike challenged the rigours of a few northern fishing trips. We all know that he displayed selfless courage in the battle with his illness. It is difficult to accept the loss of such a wonderful rare person as our cousin Marc but we shall collectivey cherish the many fond memories as we think of how better off the world would be with more people in his image.

Please accept our sincere condolences for this sad loss to the entire Rouleau family. We were neighbours in CFB Valcartier in the mid 1970's and Marc and I were playmates. Our parents Jean Pierre and Denise Bouvette (both deceased) were friends of the family as well.

To Nathalie, Nicholas, Alexa, Michael, his mom Diane and brother Mike and extended family: It is with great sadness that we post this tribute for Marc. Although we did not see one another often, it was always a pleasure for us when we did. Marc had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life. His love and pride for his family was obvious. We hope that this closeness of family will get you through the difficult days ahead. Take comfort that many friends, colleagues and family are thinking of you and sharing your loss. He has left a lasting legacy. With sincere condolences, Kevin and Judy

Marc was my older brother and, in many ways, an amazing role model growing up. He helped me navigate some turbulent early years when he had just started serving at CMR in 1982 and we served together (and lived together) from 87-89 in Valcartier. I'll always remember him as an amazing Dad and husband. He 'did' fatherhood really well because he put in the reps. He didn't talk about it...he did it. He was always coaching a team or two and was deeply involved with his three wonderful kids. He sometimes talked about teaching after the military... something he would have excelled at. He was a born teacher, in many ways. COVID made the final stretch impossibly challenging, but I'll always cherish the times we spent alone, in ICU, a hospital room at 3 am, sitting outside his home that one final time days before he passed...we said all that needed saying and spoke of how lucky we were to have the parents we did. We acknowledged our shortfalls and our blessings and that we loved each other, as perfectly and imperfectly as two busy men could. To everyone who has written, I thank you. Marc was a Good Man and I was lucky to have had him as my only brother for 52 years.

Aunt Diane, Mike and family,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Marc. I recall the childhood memories we shared altogether and the laughter these memories brought to me. I find smiles instead of tears recalling these, somehow it makes it easier to accept..... And Marc, for the record, I still can’ t quite play tennis very well and trying my hand at golf to make up for this amounted to basically the same disappointment, but it certainly wasn’t for the sake of not trying because you and Mike were the best teachers to have. I promise to give it another shot however and if ever I actually “hit the ball” in either sport I know it will be you behind me saying, cuz, you got this! Thank you for being the best cousin ever and may you find peace and love in heaven just knowing that you will always and forever stay within my heart... Love you Marc, rest easy cousin. xoxoxoxo
